Nightwish - Sleeping Sun EP/ Oceanborn S.E. - Sleeping Sun Lyrics

1. Sleeping Sun  - This is the reason I am a Nightwish fan. This song seems to be part of a huge opera and you will wish it will never be over. Far beyond the most conceptual and most gorgeous ballad Nightwish has ever created. It has a very sad message but never a message of despair. When the sun sets upon the red oceans the soul goes down as well, into a sea of beautiful yet a pure darkness like the night itself. A darkness, a night-time who's wings protect the lovers and everything that's pure until the end of all ends. Then the souls will rise and sail before the moon and the stars to reach God. In their wandering they will roam the skies craving for the peaceful and quite night.

Nightwish - Over The Hills And Far Away EP - Away Lyrics

2. Away - This is a song about the power of the dreams. The most incredible things happen when the soul is "away" in the dream spheres. Journeys full of brightness in edenic places take place in the mind of the dreamer. This is cell's favorite so if you want the philosophy of dreams, ask cell.

Nightwish - Wishmaster - Dead Boy's Poem Lyrics

3. Dead Boy's Poem - This is one song where my words are in vain. First of all because I could not really get all those metaphors and second of all because poetry has really strange ways to come to life. The ocean soul, the lonely soul from this song finds his way on the "Century Child" LP. More to come....

Ending Words: Nightwish finds it's rightful place into Dark Poetry. It's not as much dark in the decaying and deadly way, but in a more peaceful and dramatic way. The word "soul" repeats itself a lot in this page because it is very ambiguous in the lyrics as well. Never the less, some of the best ballads in symphonic power metal are property of Nightwish. I did not mentioned "Over the Hills and Far Away" because , as you well know, it's a cover, but still one of my favorites.
